Community Pride Award - 2001

The Community Pride Committee, a subcommittee of the Vision 21 Quality of Life Committee, has recently awarded two Community Pride Certificates.  Receiving recognition were Jack Deuel and Sidney United Methodist Church Share the Bounty.  The four awards are given each year to "recognize those individuals or groups who help to make Sidney a special community."

Jack Deuel, director and founder of Tri-Town Theatre, was recognized for bringing community theater to the Tri-Town area and for his many years of hard work "sharing his talents as both director and actor."

The Share the Bounty dinner program was recognized for "reaching out to the community as a whole sharing not only food but love, fellowship and compassion".  The share the Bounty program was started about two years ago as a soup kitchen but quickly became much more than a place to receive a good meal.  The Share the Bounty meals are a chance to share in conversation and fellowship.  The meals are offered on the third Thursday of each month free of charge.

The second annual "Surf and Turf Picnic" fundraiser for the TCA Vision 21, Inc. was held on Sunday, August 19th, 2002 at the Firemen's Field in Sidney, NY. It was a great success, continuing a new regional summer tradition. This year, over 180 guests dined under the pavilion on a perfect summer day and enjoyed an appetizing meal of lobster and streak with all the picnic trimmings, while being entertained by " A Kind of Blue," a local ensemble of Jazz musicians. As Chris Anderson, Mark Brown, and Josh Brown of Sidney offered their musical talents, Jeff Olin auctioned off products and items donated by individuals and local businesses. The final earnings tallied from ticket and auction sales exceeded $3,500. These earnings will help fund the Regional Strategic Economic Development Plan contract sponsored by TCA Vision 21, Inc. for the growth of the Bainbridge, Sidney, and Unadilla area.
